Occasionally a mare will reject her foal or have complications with the delivery that prevent her being able to care for the foal.  At El Dorado Farms we are prepared to handle these events with our nurse mare program.

Mares in the program are experienced with the process of accepting another mare’s foal and nursing and caring for it through to weaning.

When a foal is rejected or its dam is unable to care for it, we introduce the foal to the nurse mares and go through a grafting process that bonds the foal and nurse mare.  This process continues until a nurse mare has fully accepted the foal and consistently nurses and cares for it.
